The upper Snake — the tailwater stretch just below Jackson Lake Dam — is running crystal clear with excellent visibility. This reach has been the most consistent producer lately, and with dam releases holding at winter conservation levels, wading conditions are comfortable and the fish are accessible.
Through the valley and canyon, fishing is really good right now — you just need to be deliberate about where you set up. Fish have shifted into winter holding lies: slower pools, eddies, and seams are your best bets. Afternoons are the prime window, with trout rising to small BWOs, midges, and large October caddis.
Brown trout are on the move, and swinging streamers or wet flies through the right water can be a blast.
