As of ~2 weeks ago, the river was fishing well.
The Snake through the Jackson valley and Moose corridor is fishing well right now. Water clarity is high below the dam and clear at Moose, and despite elevated flows from irrigation releases, fish are actively eating on top. Terrestrials are the go-to in sunny and windy conditions, and PMDs are still coming off mid-morning through early afternoon.
Hecuba Drakes and mutant stones are also in the mix, especially on cooler, cloudy days. Best action is in riffles and along the edges of fast water.
The Snake is still running higher than normal through the lower reaches due to ongoing irrigation demands pushing water downstream, but it's fishing well despite that. Dry fly variety has been broad — chubby chernobyls, hoppers, parachute hare's ears, and PMD patterns have all been getting attention from fish. Flat Creek and other area tributaries are also in good shape and worth a look if you want a change of pace.
211 CFS is on the low side for September — this stretch typically runs 242–409 CFS.
With flows lower than usual, wading is generally easier and more forgiving — but beds still shift and cold water saps strength fast, so read the water, stay within your limits, and check conditions on-site. You remain responsible for your own safety.
