The McKenzie is in solid shape right now — both the tailwater and freestone sections are running clear, and flows are sitting right around normal levels. Trout fishing has been productive, with multiple anglers reporting good action over the past week. Spring Chinook and summer steelhead are also showing up as a bonus.
October Caddis are the headliner right now — fish them in larva, pupa, and adult forms. Blue-winged Olives are also active this time of year, so have nymphs, emergers, and duns on hand. Midge rigs (cream and red/blood patterns) fished deep under an indicator round out the trout menu, and sculpin-style streamers are always worth throwing on the McKenzie.
