The Metolius is fishing well right now and shaping up as a top pick for the week. Kokanee are wrapping up their spawn, and that activity is kicking bugs loose — midges, caddis, stonefly nymphs, and mayfly nymphs are all getting dislodged and drifting down to waiting trout and whitefish. Bull trout are also in the mix, following the Kokanee up from Lake Billy Chinook and eating aggressively.
Blue Wing Olives and PMDs are the key dry fly hatches to watch for right now, with Mahogany Duns and Cinygmula also possible. Afternoon is the prime window for surface action. Midge activity is worth noting too, especially in eddies and slower pools.
